Description: This data set is based on the PLSS section grid of Lake County but has been modified to be used in creating Mapbook series' for Half Section maps. Sections that were originally truncated along waterbody shorelines or around Land Grants have been extrapolated to be complete rectangles. The large Land Grants have been subdivided into 1 mile X 1/2 mile or less for consistent mapping and given a naming convention that consists of the original section number plus an alpha character (i.e. 37a, 37b, 37c, etc.) to indicate a portion of the whole. The Manhattan Subdivision has been subdivided into it's internal Manhattan Section numbers and named using that Manhatten section number plus the letter "M". These naming conventions are reflected in the LABEL field and are used to identify map pages within a mapbook series. Each half section label includes "N" or "S" in the text to indicate the north half or the south half. Sections where there is minimal development have been left as whole 1mi X 1mi sections. When using an 18X32 inch paper layout, use the Scale field to drive the scale of each map page.
